Research Paper Topic -Canadian postal strike 1981

Your research proposal must include this information:

  • The proposed topic of your major research paper
  • The proposed title of your research paper
  • The main argument, position, or thesis statement of your research paper (in one to three sentences). (Please see Purdue’s Online Writing Lab’s Tips and Examples for Writing Thesis Statements for more information.)
  • The proposed sources of your scholarly research. You must provide a full citation of each source that you think you might include in your paper, following an accepted referencing style such as Chicago or MLA (see Purdue’s Online Writing Lab’s Research and Citation section for information on referencing styles). As you will see in the instructions for Assignment  5: Research Paper, your research paper will be required to contain references to at least twelve (12) scholarly articles or books (preferably a combination of both). At least four (4) of these references should be taken from the online readings assigned in the study guides. Other excellent resources are mentioned in the supplementary materials lists at the end each unit. You will be asked to try to include references to at least four readings from these lists in your research paper.
  • Potential research difficulties (if any), and how you plan to overcome them

Philosophy Essay

This assignment exercises and assesses your ability to think critically about a philosophical issue or idea, and to clearly express your thoughts about it in writing. Your ultimate task is to present a compelling case for your own position on the issue. Prior to that, you want to thoroughly explain and examine the author’s position on the issue. The assignment allows some latitude in the way you respond to the passage that you write about, though it is imperative that you address the central issue or claim of the passage, and it is imperative that your essay be philosophical in nature. The author of an outstanding essay will do all of the following (but also not treat these as a laundry list): ▪ clearly identify the passage you choose at the start of your essay. ▪ identify the central issue that the passage concerns (an issue can almost always be stated with the word ‘whether’ (e.g., “…whether ritual is critical to moral development.”) or as a question (e.g. Is ritual critical to moral development?) ▪ identify the author’s position on the issue (yes/no) ▪ explain the meaning of the passage in the context of our larger study (pretend that the reader is intelligent, but unfamiliar with this text), and explain the author’s reasons for holding the position that he/she does. ▪ discuss the specific meaning of any of the key terms or concepts, especially if the way you define or apply the term is important to developing your later perspective on the issue ▪ question any assumptions that the passage seems to be making: are they reasonable? ▪ agree or disagree absolutely with the claim, or agree with some parts and not others (point out, if relevant, why the claim is “valid” in some situations but not in others) ▪ develop your own position on the issue with reasons that support your overall perspective ▪ if applicable, give examples, either real or hypothetical, that illustrate your reasons and advance your point of view ▪ Consider the perspective of others who might not agree with your position or reasoning. What reasons might someone use to refute or undermine my position? How should I acknowledge or defend against those views in my essay? ▪ proofread the essay (or have someone else proofread it) to check for spelling errors, grammatical mistakes, and poorly constructed sentences and paragraphs Your essay should be 1000 to 1500 words. (3 to 5 pages in standard formatting, but use the “word count” tool in your word processor to check.) NOTE: Your essay should contain your own thoughts and reasoning, in your own words. The essay should not require any research, but of course, you are free to do some. If you do wish to incorporate another writer’s words or ideas, you must fully document what you incorporate with a footnote, endnote, or parenthetical reference. In this case, full bibliographical details should also appear at the end of the paper. Any college-level writing manual will provide guidelines and examples of these. If you have any questions about this, see me. (make certain that you discuss these passages, and not merely a passage or issue related to one of these) “Having no answer to these arguments, I am driven back to the position that doubts can properly be raised about any of my former beliefs. I don’t reach this conclusion in a flippant or casual manner, but on the basis of powerful and well thought-out reasons.” (Descartes, Med. I) An alternative translation by Donald Cress: “But eventually I am forced to admit that there is nothing among the things I once believed to be true which is not permissible to doubt—and not out of frivolity or lack of forethought, but for valid and considered reasons.”

Ethical Standards for Human Services

In this Assignment, you will apply the information you have learned regarding boundaries and dual relationships to the analysis of a real life scenario:

Ms. C was a case manager at an outpatient clinic that provided a variety of services. One of her clients was Ms. R, who was receiving services as a result of a recent divorce. Ms. C had also experienced a divorce in her past and thought she had effectively dealt with that experience, but found herself identifying with many comments made by Ms. R.

Through their work together, the two women realized they shared many common interests. They often found themselves talking about these shared interests in their time together and eventually began meeting for coffee after their sessions. Ms. R soon suggested they begin spending additional time together socially and Ms. C agreed. Before long, they became fast friends, spending a significant amount of social time together on evenings and weekends, visiting clubs, going to movies or visiting local restaurants.

After several months, the two had a falling out about a gentleman both women favored. Ms. R filed a complaint with the Regulatory agency in her state about the relationship.

In a 4–6 page paper, analyze the implications of these events. Use the internet and the Library to investigate the harmful effects of such a relationship on all parties involved: Ms. R, the helping relationship and for Ms. C. Discuss both the social and emotional impacts of such a relationship as well as their effects on the treatment relationship. Use specific examples. Discuss the likely outcome of Ms. R’s complaint if it was filed in your state. Finally, discuss strategies to minimize the likelihood of such a relationship arising in your practice.

Your Assignment should:

Be presented in the form of a well-written document
Use an essay format, 12 point font, and double spacing
Be 4–6 pages in length, not including the title and reference pages
Include a title page and reference page
Including at least two references in support of your observations and conclusions using proper APA citation and reference formatting
All work should be in your own words with quotes used very sparingly. Please be sure to answer every question within the body of your paper. The Library offers you credible articles from which to draw your supportive references.
